Whiz Wheels are encountered in some miniatures games. They allow several
CRTs and tables of combat modifications to be condensed into one compact
device.
The example shown above has three sections that are assembled with a
brad or other mounting method.
To use:
-
On the bottom disk, in the upper section, locate your firing type (Artillery
or Machine guns), and locate the number of combat factors the firing
unit has.
-
On the middle disk, locate the arrow that describes the aspect of the firing
unit ("Moving normally in the open", etc.)
-
Rotate the middle disk so that it's selected arrow points at the unit's
number of combat factors.
-
On the upper disk, locate the arrow with your unit's firing modifier ("All
artillery fire", "clear visibility", etc)
-
Keeping the bottom and middle disks stationary relative to each other,
rotate the upper disk until the 'X' arrow on the middle disk points at
the upper disk's firing modifier.
-
On the upper disk, locate the number of figures in the target zone (i.e.,
the number of hapless enemy figures you are spraying with death).
-
Follow the line for the number of figures to read off the casualties caused
on the scale on the bottom disk.
So you see how this disk manages to easily handle five factors,
so the gamer doesn't have to do all the math.
If you have a set of whiz-wheels and are trying to attach them together,
go to an arts-and-crafts store, enter the "scrapbook" section, and get a
set of eyelets and an eyelet setting tool.
