13Empires.AstroDB Read Me This is a database file for AstroSynthesis v3.0 https://nbos.com/products/astrosynthesis windows only The methodology behind the map creation is documented here: http://www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/empiremap.php#ascubemap Warning, this is a work in progress and there may be errors. Use at your own risk. The sector is 100 light-years in radius, and contains all known stars from the RECONS, DENSE, CTIOPI and Extended Hipparcos datasets. The star catalogs were compiled and converted to AS format by the Evil Dr Ganymede: http://evildrganymede.net/wp/rpgs/stellar-mapping/ Within the sector are 13 "empires" or groups of stars. Each is approximately 33.3 light-years in radius. They are arranged in a cuboctahedral array, that is, one in the center and 12 clustered around them. The empires are designated Empire Sol, Empire Albert, Empire Bravo, Empire Charlie, Empire Denver, Empire Echo, Empire Foxtrot, Empire Golf, Empire Hotel, Empire India, Empire Juliette, Empire Kilo, Empire Lima, and Neutral Zone (from the NATO phonetic alphabet, except for the last one). These are arbitrary, of course. Feel free to change them. In addition there are 12 markers, one for each empire except Sol and the Neutral zone. Each marker is at the geometric center of the corresponding empire, and has the same name as the empire. -------------- The important point is that every star has its "Political Affiliation" attribute set to one of the empire names. -------------- This allows you to temporarily hide from view specific empires in order to unclutter the map. Use the Filters | Political menu to hide/show empires. You can also use this to delete and make new networks of star links. Each empire has its own network of links, in the empire color. All the routes are given a name in the form "empirename Route", for example "Albert Route". To delete all the routes for a given empire, go to the menu Actions | Mass Edit | Delete Routes. Find the route you want to kill in the drop down list, and hit OK. Now you can make new routes. To make a new set of routes for an empire [1] first delete the old routes, as per instructions above [2] click selection pointer on background space in order to unselect everything [3] From Search window, click on Advanced Search. In search window enter root only, political="Empire Albert" using name of desired empire. Click Search, then click Select All, then click Close. All the stars of that empire will now be selected [4] Click the Create Proximity Routes button. In dialog, set the following: Created routes between Selected Systems Only Min Route Length: 0 Max Route Length: depends upon what you are trying to do, I used 100 Max Routes per System: depends upon what you are trying to do, I used 3 Route Type: THIS IS IMPORTANT!! Type in name for all the routess, I used "Albert Route" with name of empire. IF YOU FORGET THIS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DELETE THE ROUTES OTHER THAN MANUALLY ONE-BY-ONE!! Route Color: choose desired color Line style: choose desired style Line width: choose desired width then hit OK. Neutral Zone These are stars that are on the borders between two empires. They are defined as being close to equidistant between two empire centers, with "close" defined as within plus or minus 20% of equidistant. Directions Coreward: towards the center of the galaxy Rimward: opposite of Coreward Spinward: towards the direction of galactic spin Trailing: opposite of Spinward Zenith: along galactic spin axis, northward as per right-hand rule Nadir: opposite of Zenith
